Among others, he was the principal contractor of KBN grant No. 134/T10/96/10 entitled “The use of object-oriented analysis techniques and object-oriented programming to rationalise methods and algorithms of power system state analysis” in the years 1996–1998.

In 1996, he participated in the implementation of the commissioned research project PBZ-09-03 entitled “Analysis and adaptation of the EMS computer system for the needs of control of the Polish power system” within the Consortium of Universities of Technology (Gdańsk, Silesian and Warsaw).

In the years 1993–1995, he co-participated in the implementation of the TEMPUS JEP 3026 project, which was combined with two three-week scientific internships in the United Kingdom (Durham University).

Professor Piotr Miller is a co-author of numerous computer software packages in the field of technical analysis of power system networks. The programs ZWPC, SHORTS, EKWIW, UNIDATA, PARALIN, MODLIN, DAZA, SHCData, SCC, SCC Industrial as well as AsPro and SynchroSoft have been implemented in such companies and institutions as Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne SA, Energoprojekt Kraków SA, Energoprojekt Katowice SA, the Institute of Power Engineering, MEGADEX SA, Tauron Dystrybucja SA and ENEA SA.
