The Department of Power Engineering was established in 1991 as a result of the reorganisation of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at Lublin University of Technology. Until July 2019, it operated under the name Department of Electrical Networks and Protection.
The Head of the Department is Professor Piotr Kacejko.
The Department's activities include, in particular, the analysis, modelling and optimisation of power system operation, integration of renewable energy sources and energy storage systems, power system automation and protection, as well as the application of modern computational methods and artificial intelligence.
Research conducted at the Department covers, among other areas, power systems and networks, optimisation and control of their operation, distributed generation, renewable energy sources, energy storage systems, power system flexibility, automation, and the application of computational methods and artificial intelligence.
The Department's staff teach courses in degree programmes offered at Lublin University of Technology, covering, among other areas, power engineering, power networks and systems, power system protection and automation, electrical installations, renewable energy sources, and issues related to operation and safety.
The Department cooperates with companies, organisations in the power sector, and research institutions. The scope of cooperation includes technical analyses and expert assessments, research and development activities, studies, specialist consultations, and training.
The Department's team comprises research and teaching staff, teaching staff, and technical staff specialising in various areas of power engineering.
