Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Laboratory

The EMC Laboratory at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Smart Technologies serves as a specialised facility for research, testing, and technical assessment of electrical and electronic systems.

Main Scope of Activity:

  • Pre-compliance EMC Testing: Supporting external manufacturers by verifying technical requirements for diverse industrial and commercial applications.
  • Power Quality Measurements: Analysing network parameters and the impact of high‑power non-linear loads.
  • Electromagnetic Field Assessment: Mapping field distribution and performing exposure assessments to ensure compliance with safety guidelines.
  • Research & Education: Providing a platform for both academic didactic activities and PhD research.

Measurement Infrastructure

The laboratory is equipped for both controlled environment testing and in-situ (real-world) measurements. The instrumentation includes:

  • An EMC Shielded Room for interference-free testing.
  • Field Meters: Specialised 3D H/E field meters and radiofrequency dosimeters.
  • Advanced Analysers: A comprehensive setup including LISN, Power Quality analysers, and disturbance generator.

By combining precision measurement tools with expert knowledge, the lab serves as a crucial hub for analysing the compatibility and safety of modern electrical infrastructure.
