Department of Automation and Metrology

The Department is the heir of many organisational, scientific and didactic units, the history of which dates back to the beginnings of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering.
In the field of metrology, scientific and didactic activity was carried out, among others, in: the Electrical Measurement Group (1967-1973), the Automatics and Measurements Department (1974-1984) headed by Assc. Prof. Kazimierz Majdiuk and doc. Assc. Prof. Tadeusz Latocha and the Department of Electrical and Electronic Metrology (1989-1998) headed by prof. Włodzimierz J. Krolopp.
Didactic and scientific activity in the field of broadly understood automation was carried out at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, successively in: Automatics, Electronics and Telemechanics Group (1967-73), Automation and Measurements Department (1974-1984), Electronics and Automatics Department (1984-1991) and Department of Electrical Drives and Department of Automation (1991-1999). A permanent mark on this field was left by the late Dr. T. Latocha and Dr. Czesław Dacka. Over the decades of operation, many other employees have contributed: dr inż. S. Tarasiewicz, dr inż. L. Kawęcki, Eng. Matuszyk, dr hab. Eng. W. Wójcik, dr inż. J. Laskowski, dr inż. K. Tymburski, mgr inż. R. Rajczakowski, mgr inż. K. Russ, mgr inż. D. Szyszko and mgr inż. B. Stanczyk.

The Department of Automation and Metrology was established in 1998 as a result of joining the Department of Electrical and Electronic Metrology by a group of employees of the former Department of Automation, headed by dr inż. Edward Żak.

The head of the Department in the years 1998-2001 was prof. dr hab. inż. Janusz Jaworski, in 2001-2002 prof. dr hab. inż. Włodzimierz J. Krolopp, and then prof. dr hab. inż. Wiktor Łozbin.

From September 2010 the head of the department is prof. dr hab. inż. Jarosław Sikora.
