Scientists from the Department of Computer Science of Lublin University of Technology, together with ophthalmologists from the Medical University of Lublin and the University of Lviv, will help Ukrainian patients. It is about the diagnosis of children and adults, victims of war injuries.
The work of the team from Lublin University of Technology will be led by Prof. Dariusz Czerwiński and Prof. Kamil Jonak.
- Our scientists will develop methods for transmitting medical data from areas affected by armed conflict, both from medical centers located in western Ukraine, as well as those located closer to the front line, using the Starlink network - says Prof. Dariusz Czerwiński. And he adds: They will then remove artifacts and improve the quality of the photos of eye injuries recorded on shelling and bombing victims. Based on the photos and the analysis made by ophthalmologists, they will create an artificial intelligence algorithm that allows for a faster assessment of eye injuries, directly in the area affected by military operations.
- Thanks to the algorithm, we will be able to determine which patient requires urgent surgery and which can be treated conservatively - explains Prof. Robert Rejdak, head of the Department and Clinic of General and Children's Ophthalmology at the Medical University of Lublin.
